The FALL COLOUR PROGRESSION REPORT is posted each Tuesday and Friday during the beautiful fall colour season, in the province of Ontario. This is the report for Friday, October 6, 2006(newstarnet.com)

Northern Ontario Region(newstarnet.com)
The colours are now past peak in the Kenora and Fort Frances region. There is about 10 to 50% leaf fall with some areas of gold and yellow remaining. The Thunder Bay region sees the colour at PEAK. The region is blanketed with bright gold and yellow from the poplar and birch trees along with splashes of bright red from the maples. The colour is very nice in the region from Thunder Bay to Atikokan. Highway 11/17 from Thunder Bay to Kakabeka Falls offers a good fall colour driving tour. (newstarnet.com)
Colours are now just past peak, with about 20% leaf fall, in the Sault Ste. Marie region. The Agawa Canyon continues to offer some nice colour at this time with areas of deep red, orange and yellow. The Agawa Canyon Tour train adventure, out of Sault Ste. Marie, offers an outstanding way to enjoy the fall colour season in the Algoma region of the province. The train excursions continue daily through October 16th and it is always best to make your train reservation in advance of your trip to the area. (newstarnet.com)
The Manitoulin Island region is at PEAK with bright red, gold, orange and yellow being the dominant colours. It’s a beautiful time to visit the island. A good viewing route is South Baymouth to Little Current along highway 6. In the north eastern region of the province, in the Temagami district, the colour is at PEAK with lots of bright yellow and gold and limited leaf fall. The Tower Lookout in Temagami offers a panoramic view of the area. (newstarnet.com)
The colour is now at PEAK in the North Bay area. Highways 11 and 522 are offering some outstanding colour with about 20% leaf fall. The colour change is now at PEAK from Sudbury across to Killarney Provincial Park area with dominant colours being orange and yellow. (newstarnet.com)
Algonquin Park is still showing some excellent colour however the colour is now well past peak with about 50% leaf fall. The Highway 60 corridor continues to offer some pockets of nice colour with a mix of yellow, orange, red and burgundy remaining. An ideal viewing location, in Algonquin Park, is the world class visitor centre. The view from the observation deck, to the south, is always outstanding, but especially during the fall. Ragged Falls, just off highway 60, outside the west gate of the park, also offers an ideal viewing location.(newstarnet.com)
Central Ontario Region(newstarnet.com)
The central region of the province from Parry Sound across to Muskoka and into the Haliburton area sees the colours at PEAK. The region is offering brilliant red, orange, yellow and gold. Ideal viewing locations include the Fire Tower Lookouts in Parry Sound and Dorset and the Lion’s Lookout in Huntsville. Highways 169, 118, 117, 11 and 35 always offer outstanding colour and the boat cruises throughout the area are an excellent way to enjoy a fall colour experience. (newstarnet.com)
An excellent location to enjoy the colours, over the Thanksgiving weekend in the Haliburton County region, is the picturesque Buttermilk Falls along highway 35, north of Minden. The Kawartha Lakes region sees the colour at PEAK at this time. Bright red and orange dominate the landscape. (newstarnet.com)
The Barrie, Orillia, Midland and across to Collingwood region sees the colours at PEAK. The colour is excellent with deep red along with bright yellow and orange and areas of green for contrast. Ideal viewing locations during the fall colour season are the Horseshoe Valley area, north east of Barrie and the spectacular views from the Scenic Caves suspension bridge, at the top of Blue Mountain.(newstarnet.com)

The Ottawa region is now enjoying some nice colour with a 60 % colour change at this time. Yellow and gold with pockets of red, are the dominant colours, along with lots of green for contrast. A walk or bike ride along the beautiful Rideau Canal is a great location to take in the colours. The Ottawa River Parkway is also showing some excellent colour at this time.(newstarnet.com)
Eastern Ontario Region (newstarnet.com)
In Eastern Ontario there is a 50 to 70% colour change from Belleville and the beautiful Prince Edward County area, to Kingston, Gananoque along the 1,000 region and further along the St. Lawrence River to Cornwall. Sandbanks Provincial Park and the Lake on the Mountain Lookout offer excellent fall colour destinations. The popular boat cruises, of the 1000 Island region, is a great way to enjoy the fall colour in the area. There are some nice areas of colour along highway 2, county road 15 and highway 417. To the north, the Pembroke area, across to Arnprior and onto Renfrew and the Ottawa Valley, sees the colourpast peak with about 40% leaf fall due to high winds and heavy rain last week. South-Western Ontario Region(newstarnet.com)
The Owen Sound region to Meaford and Thornbury is reporting PEAK colour. Ideal viewing locations include the Beaver Valley, south of Thornbury. The drive into the valley from Grey county road 4, north onto county road 13 is beautiful during the fall colour season. There are numerous panoramic lookouts in the area. The beautiful Inglis Falls, in Owen Sound, is an excellent fall colour location. (newstarnet.com)
In the Hockley Valley area, the colours are at PEAK. There are some areas of“fire”red and orange and vibrant yellow along the Airport Road region. The Forks of the Credit provincial park near Belfountain offers beautiful walking trails and is always a popular fall colour destination. (newstarnet.com)
The Credit Valley Explorer tour train, leaving from Orangeville offers daily fall colour tours. The Elora and Fergus areas are reporting PEAK colour with the Elora Gorge a great spot for a fall colour outing. (newstarnet.com)
Further to the south west, the Goderich, Bayfield, Lake Huron region is reporting a 50% colour change with Pinery Provincial Park always a popular fall colour destination. The region is offering some pockets of bright orange and red with lots of green for contrast. (newstarnet.com)
The St. Clair Parkway has a 40% change with dominant colours being dull orange and yellow and small areas of bright red. The Essex, Point Pelee, Kingsville region is reporting just a 20% colour change with small pockets of orange and red but the area remains mostly green.(newstarnet.com)
Niagara Falls Region(newstarnet.com)
The colour has advanced to a 50% change at this time in the region. The colours are“gorgeous”. Keep in mind the beautiful Niagara Parkway, from Niagara on the Lake to Fort Erie offers outstanding colour during the fall colour season. The view from the Brock Monument at Queenston, to the north along the Niagara River, is always outstanding. The recreational walking and bike trail, that runs parallel to the parkway, is always a popular way to enjoy the fall colour season in the Niagara region. A driving or cycling tour of the rural roads, including Regional Road 81 of Niagara’s wine country, will offer some excellent colour over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.(newstarnet.com)

There is a 50% colour change in the Greater Toronto area north to the York Region. The lakeside park areas of Toronto along with High Park are offering some excellent colour. Highway 404, close to Newmarket and the Aurora sideroad area is showing some beautiful pockets of colour at this time.(newstarnet.com)
