The FALL COLOUR PROGRESSION REPORT is posted each Tuesday and Friday during the beautiful fall colour season, in the province of Ontario. This is the report for Friday, September 22, 2006. The fall colour season is well underway across Ontario!!!(newstarnet.com)
Northern Ontario Region(newstarnet.com)
The Kenora region has seen the colour advance quickly over the past few days with just over 60% colour change at this time. Dominant colours are yellow and gold with a touch of red and orange. Fort Frances is offering lots of bright yellow at the time, about a 40 to 50% colour change with some small pockets of red. Highway 71 is offering some nice colour at this time. (newstarnet.com)
The Thunder Bay region sees the colour at about a 50% change with the dominant colour being bright yellow with some small areas of bright red. The colour is particularly nice, at this time, in the region from Thunder Bay to Atikokan. The mountain ashes, in the low lying areas are offering some excellent colour with a good fall colour driving tour being Highway 11/17 from Thunder Bay to Kakabeka Falls. (newstarnet.com)
Colours are advancing in the Sault Ste. Marie region where there is a 40% colour change. The colour is a little more advanced further north in the Agawa Canyon at about 50% turned. Dominant colours are bright burgundy, yellow and vivid orange. The Agawa Canyon Tour train adventure, out of Sault Ste. Marie, offers an outstanding way to enjoy the fall colour season in the Algoma region of the province. (newstarnet.com)
The Manitoulin Island region is offering a 50% colour change with dominant colours being bright gold, orange, yellow and pockets of burgundy. Highway 6 and 542, into the Sandfield area, is especially nice. (newstarnet.com)
In the north eastern region of the province, in the Temagami district, colour has also progressed very quickly with an 80% colour change at this time with lots of bright orange, yellow and red. The Tower Lookout in Temagami offers a panoramic view of the area. (newstarnet.com)
There are now some pockets of bright red along Highway 11, just north of North Bay. The area is reporting a 30 to 40% change. The“Dream Catcher Express”day trip train excursion from North Bay to Temagami and back is a great way to enjoy the fall colours. Train trips take place on September 22, 23,24,29,30 and October 1st. The colour change has advanced to 25% from Sudbury across to Killarney Provincial Park area with some small pockets of bright red, orange and yellow. (newstarnet.com)
Algonquin Park is showing some excellent colour. This will be the PEAK fall colour viewing weekend. There is a 90 to 100% colour change with bright orange, yellow and brilliant burgundy along the Highway 60 corridor. An ideal viewing location, in Algonquin Park, is the world class visitor centre. The view from the observation deck, to the south, is always outstanding, but especially nice during the fall. Ragged Falls, just off highway 60, outside the west gate of the park, also offers an ideal viewing location.(newstarnet.com)

The central region of the province from Parry Sound across to north Muskoka has seen the colour advance quickly over the past couple of days. The northern regions are offering a 40 to 60% change at this time with some beautiful colour along Highway 11, in the Huntsville region and Highway 69 in the Parry Sound area. (newstarnet.com)
The region is offering areas of brilliant red and orange. Ideal viewing locations include the Fire Tower Lookouts in Parry Sound and Dorset and the Lion’s Lookout in Huntsville. Highway 169, 118 and 35 always offer outstanding colour and the boat cruises throughout the area are an excellent way to enjoy a fall colour experience. (newstarnet.com)
The Haliburton region has advanced to about 30% with the best colour being offered along highway 35, close to highway 60. There are some nice pockets of red and gold throughout the area. An excellent location to enjoy the colours, over the next few weeks in the Haliburton County region, is the picturesque Buttermilk Falls along highway 35, north of Minden. The Kawartha Lakes region has some scattered areas of colour with a 35 to 45% colour change, at this time. (newstarnet.com)
The Barrie, Orillia, Midland and across to Collingwood region sees the colours about 30 to 40% turned. Ideal viewing locations during the fall colour season are the Horseshoe Valley area, north east of Barrie and the spectacular views from the Scenic Caves suspension bridge, at the top of Blue Mountain. The region is offering pockets of deep red and orange along with muted yellow.(newstarnet.com)

The Ottawa region is just starting to see some colour with a 15% colour change at this time. There are some small pockets of bright red, orange and yellow. The is still lots of green for contrast. Over the next few weeks a walk or bike ride along the beautiful Rideau Canal will be a great location to take in the colours.(newstarnet.com)
Eastern Ontario Region(newstarnet.com)
The colours are just starting to change in Eastern Ontario with a 10 to about 20% colour change from Belleville and the beautiful Prince Edward County area, to Kingston, Gananoque and further along the 1,000 region and the St. Lawrence River to Cornwall. The popular boat cruises, of the 1000 Island region, is a great way to enjoy the fall colour in the area. To the north, the Pembroke area, across to Arnprior and onto Renfrew, there is a 30% colour change. Nice driving areas over the next few weeks include 512, 514 and County Road 64.(newstarnet.com)
South-Western Ontario Region(newstarnet.com)
The Owen Sound region to Meaford and Thornbury and south to the Hockley Valley area, the fall colour season is just getting under way with a 30% colour change. There are some small areas of bright red and orange and muted yellow. Ideal viewing locations over the next couple of weeks include the Beaver Valley, south of Thornbury. The drive into the valley from county road 4, to the south, to county road 13 is beautiful during the fall colour season. There are numerous panoramic lookouts along county road 13. (newstarnet.com)
The beautiful Inglis Falls in Owen Sound will be an excellent fall colour location over the next few weeks. The Forks of the Credit provincial park near Belfountain offers beautiful walking trails and is always a popular fall colour destination. The Credit Valley Explorer tour train, leaving from Orangeville offers daily fall colour tours. (newstarnet.com)
The Elora and Fergus areas are about 15% turned with the Elora Gorge a great spot for a fall colour outing. Further to the south west, the Goderich, Bayfield, Lake Huron region is reporting just a 15% colour change with Pinery Provincial Park always a popular fall colour destination. There is just a 10% colour change at this time in the region. Keep in mind the beautiful Niagara Parkway, from Niagara on the Lake to Fort Erie offers outstanding colour during the fall colour season. The view from the Brock Monument at Queenston, to the north along the Niagara River, is always outstanding. The recreational walking and bike trail, that runs parallel to the parkway, is always a popular way to enjoy the fall colour season in the Niagara region. A driving or cycling tour of the rural roads of Niagara’s wine country will offer some excellent colour in the next week or so.(newstarnet.com)
